Dried out and Dead version X _ X

Habitat: found in sub-tidal regions in temperate seas around the world
Status: No Conservation Concerns
If you ever get a chance to see a Sea Potato (Echinocardium cordatum) you’ll probably only see it in its deceased and dried up form (last pic). This is because Sea Potatoes are normally found buried in the sand to a depth of ten to fifteen centimeters. It’s furry appearance is created from the thousands of yellowish spines that cover its body. These {mostly} backward facing spines help it to dig itself into the sand.

Sea potatoes are examples of heart-shaped urchins; a shape which you can kind of see in the last picture, as well. This guy reminds me of the Sea Mouse… but I think I like it better.

Check out these weirdos in action!
