I must be feeling bright orange creatures today. I’m not NOT into them, that’s for sure. This fabulously frizzle-haired spider is the Malaysian Orange Huntsman (Thelcticopis modesta). They’re an arboreal species that is most active at night. Orange Hunstman are extremely fast – which is where they get their name (fast hunters!).
They’ve been entering the pet trade recently, though they actually make terrible pets. They’re kind of aggressive, but not venomous, and can’t really be handled since they’re constantly trying to move. And again, since they’re so fast you better keep a close eye. They can get away from even experienced keepers if complete attention is not given. I’m sure the last thing you’d want is a large, orange, hairy spider creeping into your bed at 3 AM.
