It’s a good thing I don’t live in Santo Antonio da Platina, Brazil because I would have had a heart attack and died.
It looked like it was freaking RAINING SPIDERS over there! However these spiders, known as Social Spiders (Anelosimus eximius) weren’t actually falling from the sky; they were just suspended in a seemingly invisible giant web. Most spiders are solitary and even aggressive towards members of their own species. These guys, though, live together as one big happy spider colony. There can be several thousand individuals in one colony alone.
I’m going to go take a shower now.
Thanks Rafael Carvalho showing me this living nightmare!
