These itsy-bitsy slitherers are called Northern Redbelly Snakes (Storeria occipitomaculata). They’re probably one of the cutest species of snakes I’ve ever seen due to their petite size. Newborns measure about 7.6-11 cm (3-4¼ in.) and adults only grow up to 12 inches!
These feed primarily on slugs and earthworms because, really, what else would they be able to swallow? We’re not exactly talking about an anaconda here, people.
Love this little guy! Especially because of its cute red belly, too! *tickle, tickle*
