Reader Christopher sent me in the idea to post on the Slipper Lobster, so here goes!

These uniquely shaped crustaceans are instantly recognizable by their large antennae which protrude forward from the head as wide plates and from the fact that they lack claws. There are a variety of species of Slipper Lobster (but the one shown here is a Sculptured Slipper Lobster) and all of them can be eaten. In fact, Slipper Lobster is supposed to taste damn good. Anyone ever tried it?

One incredible thing about the Slipper Lobster is that the fossil record for these guys extends back 100–120 million years!
