new carnivore in madagascarimage credit: wired.com
Habitat: Madagascar

Lurking within the wetlands of Madagascar all this time was this mongoose-like thing. It was discovered a week ago by researchers from the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, founded by naturalist and author Gerald Durrell. the new animal has been named Salanoia durrelli, or the Durrell’s vontsira.

It’s incredible that there are still so many unknown animals out there that have yet to be discovered. When I saw this came out a week ago it just blew my mind. I want to find a mongoose creature and have it be named after me… 🙁
