As the largest freshwater fish in the world, the Giant Freshwater Stingray really is a modern day monster. Weighing in at 1,100–1,300 lbs the stingray gets to be 15 ft long and 6.2 ft across. There is a growing sport fishery for this species. When caught on a line, it may bury itself under lots of mud, making it almost impossible to lift. It is also capable of pulling boats significant distances or even underwater
. The World Conservation Union has assessed the giant freshwater stingray as Vulnerable over its entire range
I will never understand how humans want to catch endangered animals just for the fun of it. How is it fun to kill a rare living creature? How is it fun to be the cause of a beautiful animal going extinct?
