The Purple-crested Turaco (Tauraco porphyreolophus) is a definite contender for one of the ‘punkest’ birds in the whole animal kingdom. I mean honestly, that purple mohawk is pretty hardcore. This bird is definitely not afraid to take style risks. Luckily, its purple swagger has captured the hearts of all of Swaziland, as it is the National Bird of the Kingdom of Swaziland.
If you check out the fourth photo, you can see its red flight feathers (aptly named because you can only see them when the bird is in flight). Those are very special to the Ceremonial Regalia of the Saswati Royal Family. Guess they’re not ready to completely adopt the purple tresses yet.
