This is the Gelatin Slug Caterpillar of a cup moth (Limacodidae) that might first resemble a delectable gummy worm but on closer inspection its just a slug/caterpillar hybrid that kind of freaks me out and intrigues me at the same time.
They are flawlessly smooth with seemingly no head until you peak underneath its body… which is when you also discover that instead of normal caterpillar feet it just has a slug-like adhesive underside. And yes, they do move just like slugs, too!
I have an overwhelming desire to touch it. Just give it a little pat, ya know?
