This spectacular creature is a species of Plume Moth called Himmelman’s Plume Moth (Geina tenuidactylus); – and no, I have no idea who Himmelman is but he must have been a fan of feathered things…
You can spot the icicle-esque dangling ‘feathers’ on the wings of the delicate moth if you look closely at the photos. It almost looks like it has ‘thorns’ amidst the soft plumage – no doubt to deter would-be predators.
Such a gorgeous and unique creature!
