This beetle’s name is quite fitting: the Malagasy Jewel Beetle (Polybothris sumptuosa). Its kaleidoscope colors give it a fantastical quality that I have rarely seen in beetles. Though, the rest of the members of its family, Buprestidae, all share these highly metallic, iridescent exoskeletons. Guess that’s why they call them jewel beetles!
