Habitat: Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama and Venezuela
Status: Not Listed

This breathtaking creature is a species of Metalmark Moth (Cyanopepla submacula) native to South America. The colors on this insect are absolutely out-of-this-world incredible! From the dazzling turquoise blue body to the black wings graced with red/orange splotches… you really won’t find a more alluring moth than this. I mean, it even rivals a lot of butterflies I’ve seen!! If this moth were a human it would most definitely be a supermodel. No doubt.

I couldn’t find very many pictures (or info) on this moth but I just had to show you a close-up of that striking blue body. I found this magnificent photo of a closely related species, Cyanopepla arrogan, which also sports the iridescent turquoise coloration.
