Habitat: south-east Brazil
Status: Enangered

I imagine this bird to be blue-raspberry flavored. I think that’s why I find it so appealing! In reality, I’m sure it is just a regular old Banded Cotinga (Cotinga maculata) that has to deal with regular old Banded Cotinga issues. Like habitat loss.

The poor Banded Cotinga is endangered and has a very restricted range and is only found in the canopy of humid forests in a very small area of southeastern Brazil. These birds are extremely sexually dimorphic, with the males (shown above) being brightly colored blue and raspberry while the females are plainly dark brown.

This species total population is believed to be less than 1,000 individuals and declining.
